At Her Rustic Adventure events you'll learn a series of skills among other women seeking to increase their comfort and knowledge in the outdoors.

All of our events are designed to create a fun, safe, rustic learning environment for women, by women.

Each event teaches 2-3 modules to advance your skillset.

3-Season Basic Survival Skills

Accidents are rarely planned, but why not be prepared for them when they occur? In this course we will discuss how to think through an emergency calmly and address our top needs in the wilderness: heat, hydration and shelter. Including both a classroom session and a hands-on session, learn key knots and fire starting tricks.

This course is best for:
any woman who hikes or backpacks - safety first!

Most of us rely heavily on electronic maps while driving our cars, but what about by foot on a dirt trail? Cell phones break and batteries die, frankly put, electronics fail. Add a layer of safety to your outdoor adventures by learning to navigate with a map and compass. Composed of both a classroom and an outdoor practical session, we will learn how to use a map and compass to plan a route, identify points of interest and triangulate our position.

This course is best for:
any woman who hikes or backpacks - navigation is one of the 10 essentials to have on every adventure!

Washington is a breathtaking state. Enjoying it to its fullest requires mindfulness regarding how we choose to interact with nature. We will discuss important factors to consider when choosing a trail, what permits are needed to park as various trailheads, how to clothe ourselves appropriately for the PNW, as well as other hiking essentials.

This course is best for:
women who have
little to no experience hiking; women who have rarely or never been responsible for planning a hike; women of any experience who want a refresher.

Backpacking Basics

  • Backcountry Cooking and Food Storage

Getting out into the backcountry takes a bit more preparation that driving your car up to a campsite. Learn how walk-in permits work, how to maximize space in your bear canister, how much distance to put between your campstove and running water, how to keep you pack balanced to prevent a sore back, and more!

This course is best for:
women who have
never gone backpacking; women who have rarely or never been responsible for planning overnight trips and/or storing food in the backcountry, women of any experience who want a refresher.
